RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Manhattan College junior Mike Gazzola was selected MAAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week as announced Monday at league headquarters. Gazzola earned his first win of the season on Friday when he pitched the Jaspers to a 9-2 victory at Temple. It is the fourth time in his career to receive this accolade.
Gazzola turned in his best outing of the 2009 campaign when he gave the Jaspers a complete game effort in a victory over the Owls. The White Plains native struck out two batters and yielded only two walks.
Gazzola leads Manhattan starters in earned run average and has limited opponents to just a .284 batting average.
