Jaspers Sweep Weekend Meets at Home

Varieur Scores Double, But Men's Swimming Is Defeated by Iona 101-88 in Dual Meet

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Freshman Robert Varieur captured two first place finishes and set a school record, but the Manhattan College men's swim team was defeated by Iona College Friday 101-88 in a dual meet held at Riverdale Country School.

Varieur hit the finish line first in the 200 yard freestyle event in a school record time of 1:48.77 and followed that up with a win in the 100 free, swimming that race in 49.93.

Also capturing a first place finish on the evening for the Jaspers was Cullen Balcanoff, who won the 100 backstroke in 58.48.

Other top performances for the Manhattan men included a second place in the 50 free by Mickey Ruddy (in 24.20).
