RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Manhattan alumnus Jesse Darcy '07 was recently named the 2008 ?Pitcher of the Year' for the Columbus Catfish organization, a Class A Minor League baseball affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Darcy completed his first season with the Catfish ranked in the top-10 of the South Atlantic League in ERA, WHIP and wins. The Levittown, N.Y. native was honored on Friday evening at Tropicana Field prior to the Rays home game versus the Minnesota Twins.
Darcy posted an 8-3 overall record, 3.05 earned run average, 1.05 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) and 98 strikeouts over 133 innings last season. He led the Catfish in strikeouts, tied for third in the league for WHIP, sixth in wins and seventh in ERA. Darcy was named the Tampa Bay Ray's organization's ?Pitcher of the Month' for June.
Darcy was drafted by the Rays in the 38th round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He played the 2007 season for the Hudson Valley Renegades, and was promoted to Columbus for the 2008 season.
