RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has released its annual Division I All-Academic women's track & field team. Three Manhattan student-athletes?Jackie Hargrove, Alexandra MacDougall and Malin Marmbrandt?were recognized for their achievements on the track and in the classroom. In addition, Manhattan was one of 117 Division I USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Teams.
In order to qualify for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. In addition, athletes must achieve either the NCAA Division I indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard, or the outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their given event.
Hargrove, a native of Vienna, Va., ran at the NCAA Regionals in the 400 meters and 4x100 meter relay as a freshman. Her top time in the 400 came during the indoor season, when she ran a 58.43 clocking at the Boston University Valentine's Day Invitational on Feb. 8. Hargrove won the 400 meters and placed third in the 200 at the 2008 MAAC Outdoor Championships. She also ran the on Manhattan's victorious 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay squads.
MacDougall, a rising junior from East Lyme, Conn., qualified for Regionals after pole vaulting 10 feet, 10? inches at the Albany Invitational on Jan. 26. In addition, MacDougall won the pole vault at the MAAC Outdoor Championships.
A rising junior, Marmbrandt competed at Regionals in both the long jump and triple jump. Her season bests in both jumps came during the indoor season. The Enkoping, Sweden, native triple jumped 39 feet, 3 inches on Jan. 26 and recorded a mark of 18 feet, 10? inches in the long jump on Feb. 16. Marmbrandt won both events and placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles at the outdoor conference meet.
To earn team honors, a squad must carry a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average. Manhattan ranked 34th with a team GPA of 3.31. Iona and Rider were the only other MAAC schools to achieve All-Academic team status.
