2009 Schedule
RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Head coach Tim McIntee announced today the 2009 Manhattan College men's lacrosse schedule. The Jaspers open the 15-game slate on Feb. 18, when Rutgers visits Gaelic Park. Manhattan also takes on six-time national champion Princeton and Division I newcomers Detroit and Presbyterian in non-conference action.
Manhattan's tilt with Rutgers marks the first time in program history that the Jaspers will host the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has won all eight previous meetings between the schools, but each of those contest was held in New Jersey. Following a nine-day layoff, the Jaspers return to action at Robert Morris on Feb. 27. Last season in Riverdale, Manhattan posted a dramatic 10-9 overtime victory over the Colonials. The following day, the Jaspers take on a Detroit program that is new to Division I men's lacrosse this season.
The Jaspers head to New Jersey on March 8 for the first meeting against Princeton in program history. Manhattan opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on March 14, when Mount St. Mary's comes to Gaelic Park. The Jaspers visit a Presbyterian team that is in its second season at the Division I level on March 18, then head to VMI for a MAAC showdown on March 21. The Keydets advanced to the championship game of the 2008 MAAC Tournament.
Manhattan returns home on March 28 to take on conference rival Siena, then hosts Sacred Heart for a non-conference tilt on April 1. Three days later, the Jaspers visit Villanova in their final non-conference game of the season.
The Jaspers return to Philadelphia for a MAAC matchup with Saint Joseph's on April 11, then visit Wagner on April 15. Defending MAAC champion Canisius visits Gaelic Park on April 18. The Golden Griffins defeated the Jaspers in the semifinals of last season's MAAC Tournament. Manhattan concludes its home slate with Providence on April 22. This is Providence's final season as a member of the MAAC Lacrosse League before joining the Big East in 2010. Manhattan visits Marist in the regular season finale on April 25.
The four-team MAAC Tournament will take place at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 1 and 3.
