MANHATTAN TRIPLE JUMPER JULES MOVES INTO TOP 8 IN COUNTRY WITH MEET RECORD AT GOTHAM CUP MEET; SHOT PUTTER VOJINOVIC ALSO SETS MEET RECORD

New York, NY (January 18, 2008) ? Manhattan College triple jumper Dexter Jules posted the eighth best mark in the country so far this indoor season, taking first place at the NYC Gotham Cup with a meet-record winning mark of 15.62m. 

 

Meanwhile, Manhattan freshman shot putter Marina Vojinovic also set a NYC Gotham Cup meet record with a mark of 14.73m.  That distance moved her into second place on the Manhattan all-time women's shot put list.

 

Jules, with his winning triple jump, qualified for the NCAA “B” Championships, as well as the IC4A Indoor Championships and the Metropolitan Indoor Championships.  Vojinovic's shot put qualified her for the ECAC Indoor Championships.

 

As usual, the indoor meet ? held at the Armory Track and Field Center -- resulted in a number of Manhattan College track and field athletes posting wins and championship qualifying times.

 

In the women's distance medley relay team the Lady Jasper relay team -- consisting of Jelena Rankovic (1200 leg), Madeline Nally(400 leg), Mary Consiglio (800 leg), and Sarah Rogers (1600 leg) ? took first in 12.26.40.

 

In the men's distance medley, the Jaspers finished fourth in 10:30.40 with Milos Vuckovic running the 1200 leg, Nick Estis the 400 leg, Matt Meehan the 800 leg and Matt Kaftanski the 1600 leg.

 

Vuckovic also finished sixth in the one mile run with an IC4A and Metropolitan qualifying time of 4:13.00.

 

Other Jasper top performances included:

 

n      Jason Grant taking sixth place in the triple jump with a personal record and Met qualifying mark of 13.82 meters.
 

n      Kelton Cumberbatch  posting a IC4A and Met qualifying time of 1:05.22 in the men's 500 meter dash

n      Jackie Jackie Hargrove running a 1:16.29 in the women's 500m dash to qualify for the Mets.

 

n      Sarah Rogers running a Met qualifying time of 5:09.22 in the women's 1 mile run

 

n      Jelena Rankovic running a Met qualifying time of 3:01.36 in the women's 1000 meter run

 

n      Matt Kaftanski running a Met qualifying time of 2:34.06 in the men's 1000m

 

n      Megan Tice recording a Met qualifying mark of 1.65 in the women's high jump

 

n      Mary Consiglio running a Met qualifying time of 2:21.98 in the women's 800 meter run.

 

n      Nick Estis running a Met qualifying time of 50.33 in the men's 400 meter dash.

 

n      Nikolay Tkachenko and DeSean HooShing posting Met men's pole vault qualifying marks of 4.35m and 4.20m respectively.

 

The Manhattan Track and Field team is back at the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan on Saturday, January 26th to take part in the Albany Invitational.
