JESSE DARCY NAMED MAAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Riverdale, N.Y. (April 30, 2007)- Manhattan College Baseball senior pitcher Jesse Darcy has been named MAAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 22, it was announced today by the MAAC office.  This is the second time this season that Darcy has been recognized by the conference office.

Darcy (7-2 overall, 6-0 MAAC) won his sixth MAAC game in as many starts, and added to his MAAC leading win total with a complete game win over Rider on Saturday, April 28.  The senior struck out seven and allowed just five hits, all singles, for his fourth complete game of the season and the tenth of his career.  He already ranks in the top four in Manhattan history in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, and appearances.  The Division Avenue High School graduate has lowered his ERA (2.09 overall, 1.12 MAAC) in each of his last seven starts.

The Jaspers' 17-0 start to conference play matches the best start to MAAC play in the history of the conference, equaling Le Moyne College's start to MAAC play in the 2003 season, in which the Dolphins posted a 33-17, 22-3 MAAC final record.

Manhattan gets back in action on Tuesday, May 1, hosting boro rival Fordham University at Van Cortlandt Park in the annual Battle of the Bronx game.  The first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.  The Jaspers return to conference play this weekend, traveling to Fairfield, Conn. to battle MAAC foe Fairfield University in a three-game MAAC series beginning Saturday, May 5 at 12 noon.
