1957 TEAM TO BE HONORED PRIOR TO MAAC SERIES AGAINST MARIST; CURRENT JASPERS LOOK TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN MAAC PLAY

Riverdale, N.Y. (April 13, 2007)- On Saturday, April 14, Manhattan will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1957 baseball team winning the Metropolitan Baseball Conference and advancing to the NCAA Regional as a part of a doubleheader with Marist College at Van Cortlandt Park. On May 30, 1957, the Jaspers fell to eventual NCAA College World Series runner-up Penn State, 2-1, in the team's last NCAA appearance before last season's memorable run. The celebration will culminate in the introduction of players from the 1957 team between games of the doubleheader.

The first game of the twin bill will also be broadcast on GoJaspers.com, with Ed Cohen painting the word picture.  Members of the 1957 team are slated to sit down with Ed throughout the game.

As part of the celebration, there will be prizes, giveaways, and contests throughout the first game, which begins at 12 noon.  Sign-up for the contests when you arrive at Van Cortlandt Park.  There will be separate contests for both students and alumni, including a Jasper strikeout inning, a Manhattan home run inning, and much more!!  Commemorative T-shirts will be given away to the first 100 students in attendance.

In addition to the festivities surrounding this outstanding team, the current Jasper Nine, which has won their last eight outings, will also look to remain perfect in MAAC play, as the team has posted the best start to conference play in school history, winning its first nine MAAC games to sit atop the conference standings.

The following 10 members of the team will be in attendance: Jerry Markey, Chuck Schilling, John Schoenberger, Marty McGuire, Phil Blose, Tommy O'Connor, Dick Bebon, John Mercurio, Jim Connor, and John Murray.

Former players, alumni, and parents of Manhattan baseball are welcome to sign up for a pregame brunch at Jake's Steakhouse, which is walking distance from the field.  The brunch will begin at 10:00 a.m.
