Riverdale, N.Y. (March 26, 2007)- Manhattan College Baseball senior pitcher Jesse Darcy has been named MAAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, and freshman outfielder Kevin Nieto has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 25, it was announced today by the MAAC office.
Darcy was brilliant in pitching Manhattan to a 5-0 win over Canisius in the defending MAAC Champion Jaspers' MAAC opener on Sunday, March 25. The senior twirled a complete game, nine-inning shutout, scattering just five hits and striking out nine without issuing a walk. Darcy retired 13 consecutive batters from the second through the sixth innings, and did not face over five batters in any single inning.
Nieto went 4-7 (.571) in helping Manhattan to an unbeaten week and a double header sweep of Canisius. The rookie scored a team-best three runs, and was a perfect 2-2 in stolen bases.
Manhattan gets back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, March 27, hosting Long Island University at 3:30 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park.
