Bronx, N.Y. (December 14, 2007) ? Manhattan College sophomore Diane Torsell continued to build her reputation as one of the area's top woman sprinters, taking first in both the 60m dash and 200m dash at the Fordham Christmas Classic held at Fordham's Vincent T. Lombardi Center Fieldhouse.
Torsell ran the 60m dash in 7.7 seconds and the 200m dash in 26.0 seconds.
The Jaspers also got a top performance from sophomore hurdler Justin Chiaravelle who took first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.7 seconds and who took third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.2s. And Lady Jasper weight throwers went 1-2-3, with freshman Diane Strutner winning the event with a Metropolitan Indoor Championship qualifying and personal record throw of 11.64m. Finishing second in the event was freshman Erin Morrison, with a mark of 10.75m, and finishing third was sophomore Kristen Johannes, with a personal record toss of 9.26m.
Morrison and Johannes also took part in the shot put, with Morrison finishing second with a throw of 9.16m and Johannes placing fourth with a mark of 8.19m.
Also posting a good performance at the meet was senior sprinter Amy Colantuolo who took third in the 200m dash with a time of 27.9 seconds and fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 8.0s.
With Sunday's Manhattan Jasper Invitational cancelled due to the impending nor'easter, the Jasper Track and Field team will take the holidays off before returning to their next meet, the Fordham Invitational to be held Friday, January 11 at the 168th Street Armory in Manhattan.
