Liz Strein (Bellerose, NY) has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District I Second Team, it was announced today.
Strein raised her batting average 100 points from her sophomore to junior campaigns, as she was second on the team and ninth in the MAAC with a .372 average. She recorded career-high's in;
Hits (61), runs (41), doubles (6), slugging % (.433), OB% (.433), and games started (50). Strein tallied 18 multi-hit games, and, after starting the season with an 11 game hit streak, also posted two more streaks of seven games or more. She also became just the 15th member of the Lady Jasper 100 hit club on May 2 vs. Central Connecticut State.
Strein recorded the most hits in a season by a Lady Jasper since 1993 and was the 2005 NY Lottery MAAC Softball Scholar of the Year. Strein also received MAAC All- Academic honors these past two years.
An exercise science major, Strein is a Dean's List student and posted the highest GPA on the team with a 3.92.
Manhattan concludes the year with an overall record of 26-24. The 26 wins mark the first time since 1994 that the Lady Jaspers tallied over 25 wins in a season.
