Riverdale, N.Y. (May 1, 2006)-With two MAAC victories this past week, Manhattan Men's Lacrosse closed out the season on a strong note, and so did freshman goalie
John Geagan. After picking up the victories over Wagner and VMI, Geagan earned the final MAAC Rookie of the Week Award for the 2006 season, it was announced by the conference office earlier today.
The accolade is nothing new for the Jasper net-minder. This week marks the fourth occasion this season that Geagan earned the title.
On the week, Geagan posted a 5.50 GAA and a .717 save percentage. In 60 minutes against Wagner, Geagan turned aside 20 of 24 shots on goal in a 10-4 triumph. Geagan also helped to hold the VMI offense in check, allowing only seven scores and making eight saves in a 12-7 Manhattan victory.
Geagan, who finishes his rookie campaign with a 5-4 win-loss tally and a 6.78 season, showed his ability to be a major factor in goal since the opening weekend of the season, when he picked up the first of his four MAAC Weekly Honors. In his collegiate debut, Geagan stopped 19 of 23 shots on goal to propel the Jaspers to a 5-4 win against Air Force at the University of Denver's Pioneer Face-off Classic.
Since he opened and closed the season with a MAAC Rookie of the Week Award, one can say that Geagan started strong, but one must use caution in saying he finished strong because this Jasper's career has just begun.
