John Maser has been named MAAC Player of the Week, and junior right-handed pitcher
Steve Bronder has been named MAAC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 16, it was announced today by the conference office. This is the first time Maser has been recognized by the MAAC this season, while Bronder picks up his second Pitcher of the Week award.
Maser was red hot last week in helping Manhattan post a 4-1 week, including a series win against Le Moyne that closed out his regular season career at Van Cortlandt Park and moved the Jaspers into third place in the MAAC standings. He batter .556 and tallied four multi-hit games, including a 4-4 game with two runs in the opener against Le Moyne. He collected 10 hits in 18 at bats, with eight runs, three walks, and three RBI. His on base percentage for the week was .619.
On the season, Maser is batting a career-high .331, and has also posted career-high totals in runs (32) and doubles (6). He is batting .350 in MAAC games.
Bronder did not allow an earned run while striking out eight in Manhattan's 5-2 win over Le Moyne on Saturday, May 14 that enabled the Jaspers to move into third place in the MAAC standings. It was his fourth win in his last five starts over which he has posted a 1.47 ERA with 26 strikeouts.
Overall, Bronder has won a career-high five games, posting two shutouts, both in MAAC play. He boasts a 2.90 ERA in MAAC games.
Manhattan is currently 27-17, 13-7 in MAAC play, and currently stands in third place in the MAAC standings, having won seven of its last eight games. The Jaspers return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 17, when the Jaspers travel to Big East member St. John's for Manhattan's final regular season non-conference game. First pitch at The Ballpark at St. John's is slated for 6:00 p.m.
