Riverdale, NY (April 25, 2005)- Manhattan junior right-handed pitcher
Steve Bronder has been named MAAC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 24, it was announced today by the conference office. This is the first time Bronder has received this award.
Bronder faced the minimum in twirling his first collegiate no-hitter in Manhattan's 1-0 MAAC win over Rider on Sunday, April 24, moving Manhattan into third place in the MAAC standings. He induced 13 groundball outs, while striking out two in the seven inning win. The only two batters to reach base were put out as the front ends of double plays on the very next batter.
The no-hitter was the first for a Manhattan pitcher in over 18 years.
Manhattan is currently 16-11, 8-3 in MAAC play, and has won five straight and seven of eight and returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 27, when the Jaspers play a double header at Columbia, with the first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m.
