Riverdale, NY (April 18, 2005)- Manhattan junior shortstop/catcher
Kiera Fox has been named MAAC Softball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 17, it was announced today by the conference office. This is the first time Fox has been recognized by the MAAC.
Fox was red hot last week, batting .391 with five homers, eight RBI, and seven runs to help lead the Lady Jaspers to four wins and several milestones. Her two-run blast over the 235-foot sign in center field paced Manhattan to its first double header sweep of Fairfield since 1996, snapping the Stags nine game win streak over Manhattan, and hanging just the fourth loss in the last 18 games on Fairfield. Her solo blast at Albany helped the Lady Jaspers hand the Great Danes just their second loss in their last 18 games. Her five homer week now gives her nine for the year, breaking the all-time Manhattan single season record, passing 2004 Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Danielle Yearick's 12-year old record of eight, set in the 1993 season.
Manhattan is currently 14-16, 2-2 in MAAC play and return to action on Thursday, April 21, when the Lady Jaspers host Wagner in a non-conference double header at Gaelic Park. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
