WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO MT. ST. MARY'S, 12-7 IN THE NCAA PLAY-IN-GAME

Riverdale, NY (May 8, 2004)-The women's lacrosse team fell to Mt. St. Mary's today in their first ever NCAA play-in-game, 12-7. With the win Mt. St. Mary's earned the eighth automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Lady Jaspers end their season with an 11-8 overall record and the Mountaineers extend their season and improve to a 15-4 record.

After Manhattan took a 2-1 lead on back-to-back goals by Molly Pheterson (Rochester, NY) and Jamie Carter (Williston Park, NY) both assisted by Victoria Carman (Freeport, NY), Mount St. Mary's rolled off five straight goals to take a 6-2 advantage with 23:42 on the clock.

Ellie Keener started the Mountaineers scoring streak with 6:16 on the clock. Casey Paris then found the twine on consecutive possession to hand the Mount a 3-2 edge at 17:43.
Keene then found Mason streaking down the field at 22:59 before Addie Lewis capped the run at 23:42.

Mary Dudek (Pearl River, NY) cut the deficit to 6-3 at 26:50, but Erin LaMotte responded for Mount St. Mary's, converting a free-position goal at 28:13.

Catherine Dunbar (Floral Park, NY) and LaMotte traded markers to open the second half before Carman and Nora Jacquette (Ambler, PA) found the net 1 minute, 20 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 8-6 with 8:56 remaining.

The Lady Jaspers would come no closer than that to the Mountaineers as they went on to score three goals in a row to increase their lead to 12-6. Pheterson ended the scoring with six seconds left on the clock to end the score at 12-7.

Lady Jasper Ashley Devins (Manhasset, NY) recorded five saves for Manhattan while Mountaineer Naomi Campano had six saves.

Manhattan had an overall great season earning two team school records. The first record was the most consecutive wins with five and the second record was the most goals in a season earning 206 goals. Freshman goalkeeper Devins also broke the most saves in a season school record with 218 saves.
