RIVERDALE, NY (June 20, 2003) - Head swimming and golf coach
Walter Olsewski announced his 2003-04 recruiting class today, which includes a pair of golfers and three swimmers.
With the loss of four-time All-MAAC performer and captain Chris Damiano (Scarsdale, NY), Olsewski has a large void to fill on the links. Fortunately, Damiano will remain with the team in an assistant coaching capacity as he completes his undergraduate work.
Olsewski welcomes Corey Barringer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and Simon Morgan (Surrey, England/Redding College) to the Jasper golf team. Barringer was a four-year letter winner at Schenectady and has competed in the Sectional Qualifying Meet the last three years. A civil engineering major, Barringer owns a USGA handicap index of 4.1. Morgan comes to Manhattan from Redding College and has competed in various tournaments in the British Isles. A Psychology major, Morgan has a single-digit handicap from the R & A Order. Olsewski is confident that this pair coupled with the five returning golfers who all participated in the 2003 MAAC Tournament, will propel the Jaspers back to the upper echelon of the conference.
Olsewski also boasts three newcomers to the Lady Jasper swim team, including early signee Courtney Arduini (Slekirk, NY/Bethlehem Central) in addition to freestyler Sarah Szotak (Enfield, CT/Enrico Fermi) and breaststroker Rachele Testa (Prospect, CT/Holy Cross). Arduini is the first early signee in the program's history and has already enjoyed a great deal of success at Bethlehem Central. A special education major, Arduini will compete in the butterfly and backstroke events in addition to the relays. Szotak was a finalist at the Connecticut State Meet in the 50 Free and will compete in the sprints. She is also expected to major in Special Education. Testa, a Business major, has the potential to make a run at the school's breaststroke records. Olsewski is excited about the well roundedness of this year's team and looks to shatter even more school records this winter.
