Men’s and Women’s Swimming Opens Season at Fairfield Invitational

FAIRFIELD, CT – Manhattan Men's and Women's Swimming opened its 2025-26 campaign at the Fairfield Invitational hosted by Fairfield University on Saturday morning.

On the Women's side, Manhattan posted a fourth-place finish logging an overall score of 111, while Fairfield paced their event with an overall total of 736. Southern Connecticut State in second with a 403. Followed by the University of Bridgeport with 206, and Sacred Heart rounding out the teams with 80.

For the men, the Jaspers captured 137 total points in the event, while the Stags paced the event with 707 overall points. Bridgeport behind their in-state foes with a 481, while Southern Connecticut State added 246 points to its ledger for a third place finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED

·      Jaila Williamson logged a fourth-place finish in the Women 50 SC Meter Freestyle event with a final time of 28.20, while Shayna Millard posted a 30.36 time.

·      During the Women 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, the Jaspers placed fifth overall with a final time of 2:10.66.

·      Throughout the relay, Elle Feneide logged a sixth-place finish with a time of 2:16.43. Finally, Sophia Leber captured a 2:31.73 to open her season.

·      In the Men's 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, the Jaspers placed seventh with a final time of 1:58.88. Abelardo Cartagena posted a time of 29.88, while Ryan Carsen came in second with a time of 1:31.00 (27.31).

·      Lucien Zens recorded a final time of 9:54.76 in the Men 800 SC Meter Freestyle.

·      Myles Brown and Gavin Harding paced the Green and White with 14th and 15th place finishes, respectively with times of 2:04.65 and 2:05.63 finishes, while Matt Rogliano logged a time of 2:10.44.

·      In the Men 100 SC Meter Backstroke event, Tristian Ehrhardt and Ibrahim Mohammad cracked the top 10 with finishes of 1:04.00 and 1:05.43.

·      Jaila Williamson and Leticia Fontes led Manhattan in the Women 100 SC Meter Breaststroke event logging times of 1:19.72 and 1:22.14.

·      Their counterpart and teammate Sean Garvey registered a time of 1:09.34 in the respective Men's event.

Head Coach Brian Hansbury: "Great efforts by all team members on both sides. The meet showcased the work and growth. The team has experience from last year, and we added some strong additions to both programs for depth and versatility. We're looking forward to building upon a strong showing in Connecticut in a couple of weeks on Rose Hill."

The Green and White are back in action on Friday, October 17, when the Jaspers compete at Fordham inside the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
