BRONX, NY (April 23, 2003) - The Manhattan College softball team was shutout in both games of a doubleheader by the Fordham Rams this afternoon at Bahoshy Field. The Rams took the first game 2-0 and completed the sweep with a 4-0 win in the nightcap to improve to 31-15 overall. Manhattan has now lost eight games in a row and falls to 7-20.
In the first game, the Lady Jaspers banged out seven basehits but could not plate any runs against starter Schlichtig. Manhattan had chances in the second and fifth innings with runners in scoring position but lacked clutch hitting.
Coleen Horgan (Pearl River, NY) was 2-3 with a pair of singles in the losing effort, while
Jennifer McCracken (Wappingers Falls, NY),
Suzanne Masotto (Southbury, CT),
Melinda Whitaker (Saugerties, NY),
Megan Jurkowski (Seymour, CT) and
Jen Kamph (Ozone Park, NY) also collected basehits. Senior Candice Aulogia (New Windsor, NY) pitched a complete game and took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk. She is now 3-5 overall.
In the second game, starter Giguere stifled the Lady Jasper hitters, holding them to just three hits while striking out five. The Lady Jaspers committed three errors in the field and stranded eight baserunners in the shutout. Horgan, Whitaker and
Christina Buyea (Harriman, NY) all singled in the game. Freshman
Jillian Medea (River Vale, NJ) took the loss, allowing four runs, only one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts.
Manhattan returns to action on Thursday at Stony Brook at 3:00 PM.
