RIVERDALE, NY (February 22, 2003) The Manhattan College men's and women's track and field teams were crowned champions of the 2003 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Championships for the seventh consecutive year on Saturday at Draddy Gymnasium. The men won with a total 259.5 points, while the women tallied 287 points for the victory. Rider University men's (142.5) and women's (124.5) track and field team placed second overall.

Thomas Jacob Freeman (East Greenwich, RI) broke the conference record he set last year in the weight throw with a first place finish of 21.33m. Freeman also placed fourth in the shot put with toss of 14.07m. Freshman Anders Constantin (Uddevalla, Sweden) captured his first MAAC title in the shot put with a mark of 15.17m. Junior
Janek Augustynowicz (Rutherford, NJ) was named MAAC's Most Outstanding Field Performer after capturing his second indoor conference title today by leaping 6.95m in the long jump. He also placed second in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 14.93m. Junior

Kurt Forsyth (Summit, NJ) was crowned champion of the 200m with a time of 22.55 seconds and in the 400m with a time of 50.0 seconds. Forsyth was also a member of the first place 4x400m relay team with freshmen

Magnus Ahlen (Karlstad, Sweden) won the 55m dash with a time of 6.58.
On the women's side, junior Karin Larsson (Garphyttan, Sweden) was named the 2003 Most Outstanding Field Performer after competing in the five events. Larsson won the shot put title (13.78m), placed second in both the high jump (1.58m) and in the pole vault (2.90m), third in the long jump (5.33m), and sixth in weight throw (12.54m). Freshman Marina Liander (Staten Island, NY) captured her first MAAC title in the weight throw with a mark of 15.28m and placed third in the shot put with a toss of 12.12m. Senior Julie Wozniak (Jackson, NJ) earned her third MAAC high jump title with a leap of 1.58m. Junior Michanne Campbell (Mount Vernon, NY) won her third consecutive MAAC title in the triple jump with a mark of 11.74m. Sophomore Jana Cagin (Stockholm, Sweden) won her second consecutive long jump title with a mark of 5.54m. In the sprints, sophomore Samantha Griffin (Jersey City, NJ) captured first in the 55m dash with a time of 7.18 seconds, while senior Stefani Allen (Levittown, PA) won her third MAAC title in the 200m with a time of 25.55 seconds. Sophomore transfer Teresa Frierson (North Ridgeville, OH) captured her first conference titles in the 400m with a time of 58.60 and as a member of the distance medley relay, which consisted of Marisa Rego (New City, NY), Jamie Yedowitz (Yonkers, NY) and Rachel McGee (Bellport, NY), with a time of 12:39.80.
