DIAZ EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS AT USSSA MAJOR WORLD SERIES

JUPITER, FL (August 5, 2002) - Freshman infielder Gary Diaz (Naugatuck, CT) earned All-American honors and led the Team Connecticut Bombers to a second place finish at the 2002 USSSA Major World Series held at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, FL. In addition, incoming freshmen pitchers Kyle Wirtz (Branford, CT) and Alex Narus (Wolcott, CT) were also named All-Americans.

Diaz hit .395 during the tournament, collecting 15 hits in addition to scoring 17 runs and stealing five bases. Wirtz picked up a pair of victories and posted a 0.72 ERA over 9 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Narus was also 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA in 15 innings of work with seven strikeouts.

The Team Connecticut Bombers finished 8-3 in the tournament and were awarded the Tournament Sportsmanship Award.
