Dahan’s Second Not Enough for Men’s Soccer at NJIT in Rescheduled Fixture

NEWARK, NJ – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (0-2-0) dropped its second match of the campaign to the Highlanders of NJIT (1-2-0) by a score of 4-1 inside Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on Friday night in the rescheduled fixture.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After being postponed the night before due to severe inclement weather, the Green and White were poised to open their second match after a near one-hour delay just one day before.
  • Four minutes into the match, freshman keeper Gaspar Homar shone in the early going with NJIT applying pressure on the Jasper backline, with multiple saves, including a one-handed bat down, deflected to his left side to clear.
  • Minutes later, newcomer Nicolo Donadio posted the team's first shot on target with a Highlander keeper stop to begin suffocating the opposition's chances.
  • The Jaspers looked for needed assistance off its bench with Paul Abbatiello notching the team's second shot just minutes before entering the intermission.
  • Standing tall once more was Homar, who denied an additional pair of NJIT chances in the waning minutes of the half.
  • In the 71', Tycho van Haaren sent in a direct attempt that deflected off the opposing goalkeeper and found Ziv Dahan, who buried the loose change off the senior's shin to eliminate the shutout and put the Jaspers on the board.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Freshman goalkeeper Gaspar Homar posted another nine saves on the night while facing 35 shots.
  • Junior defender Max Asplin-Rowley added two shots, with one on target in 90 minutes on the pitch.
  • Junior midfielder Tycho van Haaren posted one assist in 61 minutes after appearing in the starting XI for the Green and White.
  • Senior striker Ziv Dahan logged the team's lone marker in the 71st minute off a ricochet from the Highlanders keeper, courtesy of van Haaren's send-in to erase the clean-sheet effort for NJIT.

NEXT UP

The Jaspers are back on the pitch on Wednesday, September 2, when Manhattan opens its home schedule on the turf at Gaelic Park as it plays host to the Privateers of SUNY-Maritime for a 1 p.m. opening kick. The contest can be seen on the Jaspers Sports Network.
