RIVERDALE, NY – Manhattan Jaspers' Men's Soccer Head Coach Tom Giovatto has announced the addition of former USL League One side Westchester SC assistant coach, Gary Philpott, to the Jasper family on Tuesday morning.
"I'm incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Manhattan University men's soccer program," said Philpott.
The Irish native joins the Jaspers after a successful stint with USL League One side Westchester Soccer Club as the club's Assistant Coach, Video & Performance Analyst, while also serving as Head Goalkeeper Coach.
Just a few miles down the road, Philpott had the privilege of overseeing former Sacred Heart Pioneer, St. John's Red Storm, and Stonehill Skyhawk goalkeeper Andrew Hammersley, who appeared in nine matches and recorded 27 saves.
Under the direction of Philpott, Hammersley was named to the USL Bench in Week 11 of the League One campaign for his five saves logged, including the first penalty kick denial of his professional career.
Additionally, Philpott assisted in the continued emergence of midfielder and Middle Village native Conor McGlynn at the League One level. Last season, McGlynn started in 16 of the 20 matches he appeared in, while finishing third on the club in goals with four, a pair of assists, and 17 shots tallied.
"We have an incredible coaching staff here and a talented group of players, including 26 new incoming players, which makes this an especially exciting time for the program."
"I'm looking forward to helping our players develop, while doing everything I can to help drive the culture and success of the program forward."
Before he arrived in Mount Vernon with Westchester, Philpott served as the Head Goalkeeper Coach for New York GAA, which also calls Gaelic Park its home.
In 2024, he was named JV Head Coach at Avenues New York, where he led his team to an ACIS Championship for the first time in nearly half a decade.
In 2019, Philpott co-founded New York International Football Club, which now competes in the American Premier Soccer League (APSL) and serves as a pathway for amateur and semi-professionals to climb the American soccer ladder.
As co-founder, Philpott set up club infrastructure and team management software and built and designed individual player and team performance packs and statistics dashboards to achieve the club's goals before each campaign.
Professionally, Philpott served as a goalkeeper for Cork City Football Club in Ireland for six seasons and became a regular in the U21 and A Championship reserve team. Down the stretch of his career, Philpott made his debut for the First Team in the League of Ireland. Some accolades included FAI Youth Cup Winner, FAI A-Championship, and Setanta Sports Cup.
"I'm proud to be a Jasper and can't wait for the upcoming season!"
Philpott graduated from Cork Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in accounting and financial reporting.
Finally, Philpott holds a USSF C License Certification, including all USSF Grassroots Coaching Licenses.
