POMONA, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (10-18, 4-11 MAAC) put forth a valiant effort in the loss to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University (9-19, 7-5 MAAC) by a score of 4-3, inside Clover Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking to salvage the series were the Green and White, who had fallen twice the day before to the Pioneers, threatened to open their day in the first inning, with a Hunter Sute and Guriyandel Salva pair of singles, before Andreaus Lewis worked a walk to load the bases.
- After the Pioneers responded with a run in the second inning, the Jaspers did the same in the bottom half, with Ryan Lordier singling into left field to drive home Trevor Hansen and tie the game at one.
- The Jaspers, trailing by as much as three due to a three-run Pioneer round-tripper, Manhattan found a way to get into scoring position due to a Sacred Heart miscue in the field, but came up empty with Sute stranded across at second base.
- In the sixth inning for the Green and White, the Jaspers loaded the bases for Lordier, who was able to drive home Hansen for the team's second run.
- The next batter featured Salva, who smacked a sacrifice fly to centerfield, allowing Jeremy Sosa to cross the plate and shrink the margin to one run.
- With the deficit remaining at one in the eighth inning, the Jaspers loaded the bases for a second time but were unable to capitalize with a groundout to third.
- In the home half of the ninth with the game on the line, Sute singled to left center, before Dylan Mayer pinch ran for Sute, before Hansen struck out swinging to end any further comeback attempt.
