PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (14-23, 7-14 MAAC) dropped its midweek non-conference contest to the Explorers of La Salle University (18-23, 4-14 A10) by a score of 14-4 inside Hank DeVincent Field on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers returned to North Philadelphia for the first time in nearly six years, and the first time since the Explorers' baseball program was revived. Additionally, Manhattan faced former Head Coach Dave Miller, who is back at the helm of La Salle.
- Manhattan gained some traction in the third inning with a two-out Ryan Lordier base knock to third base, before swiping second. Then, Guriyandel Salva worked a walk, before both advanced to third on a wild pitch.
- In the sixth inning with two outs, Andreaus Lewis smashed a solo home run to right field to get the Jaspers on the board.
- In the seventh inning with one out, Dylan Mayer kick-started the engines with a single to center field, before Colin Basehore got plunked by the opposing pitcher.
- It was the next batter in Jackson Babione, who made waves, with a booming three-run home run to score Basehore and Mayer to cut its deficit to five.
STATS AND NOTES
- Relief pitcher Matthew Steinberg logged three innings of work, allowed three hits, surrendered three runs, two earned, two walks, and punched out a game-high three batters in 47 total pitches and 14 batters faced.
- Infielder Jackson Babione supplied the Green and White with a three-run home run in a 1-for-1 afternoon.
- Catcher Andreaus Lewis posted his seventh home run of the season in a 1-for-2 afternoon. Lewis also crossed the plate once, worked a walk, and struck out once.
