POMONA, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (11-19, 4-12 MAAC) was topped by the Saints of Siena University (10-19, 6-10 MAAC) by a score of 5-3 inside Clover Stadium on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers opened their third conference home series with a Vincent Samuel single through the right side to drive home Guriyandel Salva, from first, after he worked the team's first walk of the day.
- After Siena responded with a two-run home run to left-center, Andreaus Lewis countered with a solo shot to left field of his own and knotted the game at two.
- In the third inning, Hunter Sute singled down the right field line, before Jackson Klein entered the game and forced the Saint to hit into a double-play.
- In the seventh inning, the Jaspers recorded their first base runner in nearly three innings, before Lewis and Trevor Hansen both worked walks.
- With the rally caps on for the Green and White, Lewis smacked another home run again to lead off the ninth inning, before Justin Best worked a single up the gut.
STATS AND NOTES
- Catcher Andreaus Lewis paced the Green and White with a pair of round trippers in a 2-for-3 afternoon, crossed the plate twice, added two RBIs, and one walk in the effort.
- Infielder Ryan Lordier went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Catcher Hunter Sute recorded a 1-for-4 day with two strikeouts.
- Infielder Guriyandel Salva went 0-for-3, crossed the plate once, worked one walk, and stole the lone base for the Jaspers.
- Outfielder Justin Best registered a 1-for-4 day, with two punch-outs.
- Despite logging the loss, starting pitcher Connor Throneberry put forth a valiant effort in three innings of work, surrendering four hits, five earned, three walks, and three punchouts in 62 total pitches thrown.
- Relief pitcher Jackson Klein performed masterfully, recording five innings, surrendering no hits, walking two, and striking out two, with 61 pitches.
