POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (6-7, 1-2 MAAC) fell in the series finale to the Red Foxes of Marist University (2-11, 2-1 MAAC) by a score of 14-7 inside Heritage Financial Park on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the visiting half of the fourth inning, and trailing by one run, the Jaspers responded quickly with the bases loaded off the bat of Trevor Hansen with a sacrifice fly to left field to drive home Colin Basehore.
- Next batter, it was Justin Best, who notched a go-ahead bloop single to allow Carson Vance to cross the plate for the 2-1 lead.
- Then, Guriyandel Salva drove in Best and Andreaus Lewis to give the Jaspers a trio of insurance runs on the board.
- In the top of the sixth, and trailing, Hansen launched a leadoff home run to cut the Jaspers' deficit to six.
- In the visiting half of the seventh inning with the bases loaded again, Salva brought in Basehore for the team's sixth run of the night.
- Finally, the Jaspers took advantage of a Marist miscue courtesy of Vincent Samuel, who reached on an error by the opposing shortstop, and scored Jeremy Sosa from third.
STATS AND NOTES
- Infielder Guriyandel Salva went 3-for-4 on the afternoon with three RBI's and a double and landed on base due to being hit by a pitch.
- Outfielder Justin Best went 2-for-4, crossed the plate and walked once, and added an RBI to his ledger.
- Infielder Trevor Hansen launched his second round-tripper in a 2-for-4 afternoon, which included crossing the plate once.
- Outfielder Jeremy Sosa went 2-for-5, crossed the plate once, and worked a walk.
