RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Lacrosse team (0-2) fell to the Hawks of Monmouth University (1-0) by a score of 15-9 inside Gaelic Park on Friday afternoon's rescheduled tilt.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Due to the extreme cold expected on Saturday, the Jaspers and Hawks agreed to move the contest up by a full 24 hours to accommodate the non-conference game in slightly warmer temperatures.
- Just two minutes into the game, the Jaspers struck first with Aiden Kane finding the back of the net after Monmouth turned the ball over.
- With the Hawks logging two quick goals in the next two minutes, it was Connor Engel who attempted a shot wide, but recovered by Liam Peabody, who then found Thomas White for the team's equalizer six minutes after the initial goal was posted.
- Halfway through the first quarter and trailing by one goal for the second time, it was Matthew Pantorno who found Engel, who was successful this time to knot the game at three.
- The Hawks tallied the next seven goals midway into the second quarter, before a Monmouth turnover allowed Engel to capitalize on the Hawks' turnover to stop the bleeding and add its fourth goal to the ledger.
- Trailing by as much as eight, the Jaspers' Ryan Beller logged another save to his count before the Green and White, in transition, found Aiden Kane for his second goal of the day to cut its deficit thinner.
- In the fourth quarter, the Jaspers tallied the final three goals, courtesy of Tyler Mosca, Sean Shelko, and Liam Peabody, but it was ultimately not enough down the stretch.
