EDISON, NJ - Manhattan University women's soccer freshman forward
Baileigh Johnson, after her recent performance against Rider on Wednesday, October 7, has been named the Metro Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, according to a release from the conference Monday afternoon.
Johnson, a first-year player from Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, ignited the crowd at Gaelic Park this past Wednesday after a 75th minute score to give the Jaspers a crucial 1-0 win against Rider, a program residing less than one hour from her hometown. She also led the squad in shots on goal, with four. Furthermore, the victory maintained the Green and White's perfect 5-0 record in Riverdale in 2026.
The freshman joins teammates
Scarlett Smith,
Olivia McMaster, and
Lauren Ahearn as the only Manhattan players with a goal this season, with Johnson the only newcomer amongst the list. Wednesday's goal now stands as the second in her career, tallying the first in the Jaspers' first win of the season, a 3-1 conquering of LIU in Brookdale.
Johnson and the Jaspers will return home on Saturday, October 17, looking to keep a zero in the loss column inside Gaelic Park. They will welcome the Pioneers from Sacred Heart on Senior Day, with opening kick slated for 2:00 p.m..
