Winston’s Double-Double Propels Men’s Basketball Over Rider

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (9-14, 5-7 MAAC) rolled against the Broncs of Rider University (2-18, 1-10 MAAC) by a score of 95-90 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Commencing the season finale against the Broncs in commanding fashion was Devin Dinkins, who supplied a pair of triples in the opening minutes of the contest after Rider jumped out to an early 4-0 lead.
  • Both teams traded baskets until Quron Elliott, while jumpstarting the Jaspers off the bench, registered a fast break driving layup and one, off Jaden Winston's second steal of the game.
  • The Jaspers were simply not getting answers from their usual suspects. Still, Terrance Jones logged his second three-pointer off a second-chance bucket on a third attempt in the respective sequence, before Dinkins, again, netted his third triple to bring the Green and White's deficit within two.
  • Manhattan subbed in Asier Miguel, who added a booming three-pointer to tie the contest at 34 with three and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
  • With the Green and White trailing by as much as four with 100 seconds remaining, it was Asier Miguel, who tied the game for the second time at 40, before Jackson Delaney joined the party for a deafening three-point basket to go in front.
  • As time wound near the buzzer, Winston, on a dribble drive, found a lane to the cup for a near buzzer beater to end the half in front by one possession.
  • The Jaspers began to pull away from the Broncs out of the locker room, highlighted by a Marko Ljubicic three-pointer for a game-high seven-point lead, just minutes into the stanza.
  • Seven out of the following nine Jasper points came from Terrance Jones and lifted the Jaspers to a four-point edge.
  • Just under nine minutes remaining in regulation, Fraser Roxburgh slammed home back-to-back three-pointers to leapfrog over the Broncs by as much as seven.
  • Down the stretch, the Broncs were able to net three out of the final four baskets on layup attempts to bring the Rider deficit to one.
  • The Jaspers held on during the foul game to defeat Rider, take down the Broncs in both games, and complete the series sweep this season.
