Three in Double Figures; Men’s Basketball Falls to Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (8-14, 4-7 MAAC) dropped the contest to the Gaels of Iona University (14-8, 6-5 MAAC) by a score of 66-57 inside the Hynes Athletic Center on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After both teams opened with unsuccessful attempts, followed by an Iona three, the Jaspers got on the board courtesy of Terrance Jones' steal and score, plus one to tie the game at three.
  • Manhattan trailed by double-digits but clawed its way back. Fraser Roxburgh notched his second basket of the contest after Jones found the sophomore forward down low.
  • The Gaels and Jaspers traded baskets down the stretch before Marko Ljubicic sank home a commanding three-pointer with a minute remaining, before Quron Elliott netted a basket downlow after missing a triple to allow the Jaspers to head into the locker room with momentum.
  • Five minutes into the second half, Devin Dinkins led the charge with his first three-point basket of the evening. Four minutes later, he performed an encore, cutting the Gaels' lead back to exactly ten.
  • The Green and White found its rhythm during a mini 6-0 run, continued by Jaden Winston with a floating jumper to cut its deficit to eight, before the and-one opportunity made it as low as seven.
  • With nine and a half minutes to go, Elliott again drove on a fast break, keeping the deficit at seven.
  • Two minutes later, Winston knocked down a three-pointer to further cut the Jaspers' deficit to two possessions for the first time since the beginning of the game.
  • After Jones missed a three-pointer with four minutes remaining, the graduate guard grabbed his own carom before Winston knocked down a floating jumper to narrow the lead even further to four.
  • With seconds remaining, Winston cut the Gaels' lead to one possession with a driving layup that led to a Gaels' foul. The play started with a lost ball from Iona, but it was not enough in the waning moments of the contest.
