CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (1-2-1) settled for a scoreless draw with the Sharks of Long Island University (2-0-2) from the SUSA Orlin and Cohen Sports Complex on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Green and White were rescheduled earlier in the week from its road destination at the LIU Post campus on Long Island, to the SUSA Orlin and Cohen Sports Complex in Central Islip, nearly 20 miles east of their original scheduled fixture.
- Manhattan and LIU were delayed nearly 90 minutes due to thunder and lightning in the area, before play began.
- Through the first 12 minutes, the Sharks logged a trio of shots, with one on target stopped by goalkeeper Ludvig Malberg.
- Towards the latter portion of the first half, Manhattan was able to gain some traction with a pair of William Fagerberg shots. Followed by Martin Rodriguez looking for his fifth of the season but were unsuccessful.
- The Jaspers had its best chance with a penalty kick by William Fagerberg in the 61' but was saved by the Sharks keeper.
- Off the ensuing set piece from LIU, the Jaspers were able to force a giveaway and allow James Lucas' first shot of the match on target but saved by LIU's Marotta.
- The Sharks found traction in the waning minutes of the match, but answering the bell in each of the shots on target, was Malberg to preserve the draw for Manhattan.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior goalkeeper Ludvig Malberg logged seven saves on 13 shots faced, with 7 on target.
- Freshman forward Martin Rodriguez added two shots with one on target in 45 minutes, while serving as a starter.
- Sophomore midfielder William Fagerberg registered a team high three shots with one on target in 54 minutes off the bench.
- Freshman midfielder Henry Reinhart recorded one shot in 67 minutes off the bench.
- Senior midfielder James Lucas etched two shots with one shot on target in 70 minutes of game action.
- Overall, Manhattan logged 8 shots compared to LIU's 13 and were outshot 7-3 on target. Saves were in favor of the Jaspers seven to three.
