SEATTLE, WA – Manhattan Women's Volleyball (1-6) fell to the Redhawks from Seattle University (5-1) in four sets (16-25, 22-25, 27-25, 19-25) to close out the Courtyard by Marriott Seattle University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- An early block from Sarah Emmons and Abby Morreale put the Jaspers out to an early 7-4 advantage in the first set.
- Seattle then captured 12 out of the next 14 points, capped off by a dual block.
- Teresa Garza's service ace got Manhattan to their closest point in the first set, but the Redhawks' four unanswered settled the opening frame.
- Manhattan continued to keep things close in the second, with Fiona VanDyke's stellar second set including a spike to knot the score at ten apiece.
- While facing a 13-9 deficit in the third set, Emma Francesconi's kill tied the teams at 13.
- The deciding point came on a combined block from Helenn Montilla and VanDyke, sending the match to another set.
- Each side exchanged 6-0 runs, with Manhattan's ended by a Hanna Kaczynska kill.
- Seattle grabbed four of the set's final five points, ending the match.
STATS AND NOTES
- Manhattan hit at its highest clips in the second and third sets, registering at a .111 and .200 respectively.
- The two sides tied in service aces, each netting six.
- Freshman right side Hanna Kaczynska finished with a team-high 14 kills, tying her season-high against Houston Christian (8/29). VanDyke also notched a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
- Freshman outside hitter Emma Francesconi set a new career-high mark for digs with 14.
- Senior setter Sarah Emmons continued her ways of spreading the ball around, tacking on 17 assists and four digs.
- Senior libero Teresa Garza grabbed a pair of service aces, also a season-high.
