RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (1-2-4) fell on Saturday afternoon against the Golden Griffins from Canisius (1-4) by a score of 2-1 at Gaelic Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Roughly ten minutes into the contest, Junior midfielder Olivia McMaster received a great header feed, stopped by Canisius goalkeeper Chloe Tseros.
- The Golden Griffins converted on both of their first half shots on goal, the first connecting in the 28th minute in the upper left corner.
- Four minutes later, Canisius' Jessica Whitaker put one to the other side, doubling the visitor lead..
- Junior goalkeeper Molly Brunk clocked her first save in the 60th minute, thwarting a shot to the low right side.
- Junior forward Samantha D'Angelo took advantage of her opportunity in the 72nd minute, slashing the lead in half off a feed from Mayah Wheeler.
- D'Angelo got the crowd going with some drama in the 86th, nailing the crossbar as Junior forward Amaya Hill followed up with a bullet that was quickly blocked.
STATS AND NOTES
- Manhattan won the shots battle 13-9, with the teams each clocking five shots on goal.
- Molly Brunk made three second half saves, a crucial piece to a Jasper second half shutout.
- Junior and Senior defenders Talia Omer and Mayah Wheeler each played a full 90 minutes on the pitch.
