RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (1-5-1, 0-1-0 MAAC) suffered a successful late push by the Saints of Siena University (2-4-0, 1-0-0 MAAC) by a score of 3-2 from Gaelic Park on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking to open its conference schedule on the right foot, the Jaspers went toe to toe with the Saints, before its first attempt on the attack came off a corner kick set piece just 16 minutes in.
- After an attempt by Martin Rodriguez went awry, the Saints cashed in with the icebreaker, before Henry Hamilton tied the match with a penalty kick tally with nearly two minutes remaining in the half.
- Halfway into the second half, the Jaspers found the back of the net courtesy of the Maspeth native Henry Reinhart, who was fed a perfect pass from Henry Hamilton.
- Things got chippy as the Jaspers and Saints battled on, so much so that Paul Abbatiello was shown a straight red card in the 79'. With Manhattan playing a man-down for the final 11 minutes, Siena had cashed in on the man-advantage to tie the match at two, before the Saints were able to leap ahead of the Green and White with just four minutes remaining.
