RIVERDALE, NY – Manhattan University Women's Basketball Head Coach Heather Vulin has announced the addition of another former student-athlete, Courtney Warley '22, as her team's Director of Basketball Operations on Wednesday morning.
"Courtney was one of our very first recruits to the program and was instrumental in establishing our #playGREEN culture. She is definitely a part of our foundation and who we are and what we stand for. We are thrilled to have her back as a staff member and are confident that her commitment to excellence will continue to elevate our program to new heights. A four-time captain and one of the most decorated players in program history, her wanting to come back speaks volumes of what Manhattan means to her," said Vulin.
The West Chester, PA native returns to Riverdale after five remarkable years donning the Green and White, where she logged a total of 1,295 career points as a Jasper, and averaged 9.2 points per game throughout her career.
"This program means so much to me, I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to come back under Coach Vulin and be able to still contribute to Manhattan Women's Basketball differently," says Warley.
After her tenure in the North Bronx, Warley played professionally in Portugal and Germany for the Gisa Lions MBC Halle in German DBBL.
In her fifth season in Riverdale, Warley tied her career-high in total points with 335, set initially during the 2019-20 campaign. During her final campaign, Warley started in all 30 contests, averaging nearly 35 minutes on the floor as a marquee contributor to the success of Vulin's squads.
Warley converted a whopping 43.4 percent from the field, while logging an even better 80.5 percent clip from the free-throw line. On the defensive side, Warley set a career-high in rebounds captured with 316, and averaged 10.5 on the season, while posting 11.2 points-per-game.
During a stellar 2020-21 season that saw Warley capture All-MAAC Second Team honors, the Pennsylvania product averaged nearly 12 points per game, standing out as one of the top 15-point scorers in the MAAC, while leading the program with 10.6 rebounds per game and ranking 30th overall in Division I. On the defensive side, she paced the MAAC and was 29th nationally with 7.2 defensive rebounds per game.
In 2019-20, Warley became just the eighth player in program history to be awarded an All-MAAC First Team selection, and the first in nearly a decade, after posting 11.6 points-per-game and grabbing 8.7 rebounds-per-game. The standout play of Warley earned her a spot on the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Second Team, the program's highest All-Met accolade since 2011.
During the second full season inside Draddy Gymnasium, Warley added an All-MAAC Third Team and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors to her already loaded trophy case, where she became just the second latter award getter in program history. She would lead the conference with 9.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game, respectively. Warley then led the Jaspers with 64 steals on the season and finished the year in sixth place on the program's single-season rebounding list with 282.
Warley began her career in Riverdale, ranking seventh in the MAAC in blocked shots with nearly one per game, and was named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team after posting a career-high three steals against Iona in the first round of the 2018 MAAC Championships.
As a collegiate student-athlete, Warley represented the Green and White by being named one of 30 nationwide NCAA nominees for the "Senior Class Award". She would end her collegiate studies with a 3.851 grade-point average, including a perfect 4.0 in the Fall of 2020 semester. She graduated with a double major in finance and management.
Before Warley's collegiate tenure began, the West Chester native was a standout two-year letterwinner at Bayard Rustin High School before transferring to Bishop Shanahan for her final two seasons. Warley tallied over 1,000 points in her illustrious years as a varsity student-athlete. She was named a Top 100 Recruit by ESPN, where she earned All-League and All-Area recognition.
