Survive And Advance! Women's Hoops Moves Past #9 Marist In First Round of MAAC Tournament

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (11-19, 10-10 MAAC), anchored by 25 points from Brianna Davis, won their first round bout against the ninth-seeded Red Foxes from Marist (11-20, 8-12 MAAC) by a final score of 64-55 inside Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Eighth-seeded Manhattan tallied the first nine points of the contest, as the trio of Davis, Agar Farrés Garcia, and Elisa Solé Sanchez each converted on a jumper to force an early Marist timeout.
  • Keeping the energy going throughout the rest of the frame, Hana Mühl tacked on seven more points by the end of the first ten, with the Jaspers taking a double-digit lead after the first ten minutes.
  • The Green and White started the second on a 11-2 stretching their advantage out to 20, after Davis knocked down the team's first three-point shot of the afternoon.
  • Kristina Juric saw game action for the first time since Jan. 24, collecting her first two points of the day midway through the second quarter.
  • An 11-2 run out of the huddle put the Peacock's back to within six midway through the second quarter.
  • Newcomer Celeste Harper found her own range from beyond the arc just before the halftime break, giving the Jaspers an 11 point edge by the horn.
  • Colette Mulderig hit her first two jump shots out of the locker room, as the Green and White sat comfortably with a 10+ point lead the entire quarter.
  • Mühl and Mulderig converted on the last two Jasper field goals to end the third with a 13 point lead.
  • Despite a 15 point lead with roughly nine to play, the Red Foxes used ten unanswered points to suddenly make the margin only five with under two minutes on the clock.
  • Farrés Garcia found Juric open in the paint with 35 seconds showing, which the Croatia native knocked down with ease, putting the ice on the first round matchup.
