HONOLULU, HI – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (3-2) took down the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University (1-5) by a score of 80-73 inside Bankoh Arena at Stan Sherriff Center on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers look to put the loss to Hawaii in the rear-view mirror with a chance to capture their second victory off the mainland and conclude the trip in style.
- Opening the contest, capitalizing on the Delta Devils' first turnover was Fraser Roxburgh, who put the Green and White ahead, after Oliver-Bush and Dinkins both missed attempts from beyond the arc.
- Mississippi Valley continued to make the contest enjoyable, keeping the contest within one point, before Terrance Jones posted his first three-pointer of the game to give the Jaspers their largest lead at four, before going on an 8-0 run in the next three minutes.
- Continuing to show its dominance from distance, it was the Jaspers who found Jaden Winston and Roxburgh with a pair of threes down the stretch of the first half to give themselves a double-digit lead, before Marko Ljubicic used his height down low for another two.
- After Mississippi Valley State clawed back to take a one-point lead with nine minutes remaining in regulation, the Jaspers turned on the jets and proved their resiliency. It was Quron Elliott who found his way in the paint for deafening bucket to leapfrog back in front.
- Then, it was Devin Dinkins who capitalized on another timely opponent turnover with a towering three to give the Jaspers a four-point lead once more.
- For the second time in three sequences, Anthony Isaac found Dinkins on the wing for another shot from distance to re-give the Jaspers the lead.
- In the final three minutes of the game, the Delta Devils had a one-point lead before Winston pulled up from the paint for the go-ahead bucket and never looked back.
- Finally, it was Terrance Jones, who added another triple to the Jaspers' ledger off another timely Mississippi Valley State turnover to seal the deal, before Dinkins added the last triple to give Manhattan its third victory of the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Redshirt Junior guard Devin Dinkins paced the Jaspers with 22 points on five-of-13 from distance, and seven-of-eight from the charity stripe in 36 minutes on the floor.
- Sophomore forward Fraser Roxburgh tallied another 19-point performance on six-of-10 shooting, while grabbing four rebounds in 35 minutes.
- Junior guard Jaden Winston posted 14 points highlighted by a nine-of-11 night from the free-throw line, while grabbing six boards, and assisting on three baskets in 36 minutes of game action.
- Sophomore forward Marko Ljubicic added 11 points on a perfect four-of-four shooting afternoon. The Serbian product grabbed four rebounds and converted three of four from the line in 19 minutes.
- Graduate guard Terrance Jones logged a timely pair of triples, while grabbing two caroms in 20 minutes off the bench.
- The Jaspers logged 19 points off 13 Delta Devil turnovers, while winning the battle in blocks with a pair.
