UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (0-4), despite a team-high 16 points from Brianna Davis, fell in its non-conference matchup with the Falcons from Air Force (2-2) by a score of 67-54 inside Clune Arena on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A pair of buckets from deep courtesy of Celeste Harper and Brianna Davis in that order put Manhattan up 6-3 in the opening minutes.
- Elisa Solé Sanchez joined the party around the six minute mark of the opening frame, with the first nine for the Jaspers all coming behind the three-point line.
- Davis knotted up the contest at 15 apiece in time for the first quarter horn.
- Kristina Juric put the Green and White back on top off a tip-in.
- Air Force responded with 11 unanswered points, as a fast-break layup from Jordyn DeVaughn leading to the hosts going up double digits.
- Three free throws from Colette Mulderig spread out throughout the final two minutes of the half served as the final points for Manhattan, facing a 35-22 halftime deficit.
- In the opening minutes of the third, the Jaspers used their inside presence from Mulderig and Agar Farrés Garcia to put the game back within single digits.
- Tatianna Collins scooped up a miss from beyond the arc to score a layup down low, cutting the lead to 39-37.
- The Falcons took advantage of their range at the end of the quarter, as DeVaughn nailed one for three at the buzzer.
- Farrés Garcia used an and-one to her favor, completing the three-point play after collecting her own offensive rebound.
- Despite Hana Mühl pitching in four points down the stretch, Air Force kept the game in control to prevail by the final horn.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior guard Brianna Davis posted her third game in double figures this season, contributing 16 points off a three-for-seven performance beyond the arc.
- Graduate forward Agar Farrés Garcia nearly posted a double-double, with nine points to go with her 11 rebounds.
- Freshman forward Tatianna Collins corralled in three offensive rebounds, the highest mark for the Green and White.
- Manhattan shot at its best rate in the third quarter, with a 64% clip thanks to nine made field goals.
