Women's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to FDU

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (0-3), in light of 19 points from Brianna Davis, lost a nail-biter to FDU (2-2) by a score of 65-63 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kristina Juric netted the first basket of the game for the home squad less than a minute in.
  • After FDU stretched out 11 unanswered points, Davis got going from behind the three-point line to cut the deficit back to single digits.
  • It was Davis again to start the second with a shot beyond the arc, once more putting the Knight advantage at eight.
  • Tatianna Collins and Agar Farrés Garcia joined the party of scoring to put the contest within one possession with less than four minutes until half.
  • Hana Mühl swatted a shot from FDU just before the horn, as the Jaspers trailed by seven.
  • Continuing a trend from their home opener, the third quarter lighted a spark, with Manhattan winning the frame 18-12.
  • Colette Mulderig kept the magic going, connecting for her first Division I three-point field goal just over 90 seconds into the second half.
  • Collins capped off five unanswered points to give Manhattan their first lead of the evening with three minutes and change in the third.
  • Juric grabbed a steal in the Knights backcourt with a few seconds to spare, but failed to get the ball out of her hands in time for the buzzer.
  • Celeste Harper tallied her first collegiate points on a three-point shot with 7:45 to play.
  • Juric collected an offensive rebound and put in a crucial bucket with 3:34 to go, trimming the Knight margin to two.
  • Going down by as much as seven with 1:15 on the clock, Davis' shot from range ended a 7-0 run to put Manhattan down by just a point with 5.4 showing on the scoreboard.
  • Off an inbound at halfcourt with 1.7 to play down three, Davis was then fouled in the act of shooting behind the arc and sent to the stripe, with the chance to tie the game.
  • After converting on two of three and an intentional foul, a half court heave fell short as the final horn sounded.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Senior guard Brianna Davis bested her 18 points from last week, accumulating 19 for her second-highest Division I total.
  • Graduate forward Agar Farrés Garcia (12) and Senior guard Hana Mühl (10) joined their teammate as the two other Jaspers scoring in double figures.
  • Farrés Garcia led the way in rebounding with 15, tying her mark from Nov. 3 against Rhode Island. Five of those came on the offensive end.
  • Manhattan shot at a 50% clip in both the second and third quarters, with the third seeing eight made field goals.
