RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Four Jaspers from Manhattan men's lacrosse earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors, including taking home the top honor of Offensive Player of The Year, as announced by the league office this week.
Kyle Gucwa was named First Team All-MAAC on offense and was awarded MAAC Co-Offensive Player of The Year honors after being voted the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Damien Blando was named Second Team All-MAAC on defense.
Kelly DuPree was named Second Team All-MAAC at the midfield position, while Matt Scully was given the award for Second Team All-MAAC Short Stick.
Gucwa, the all-time points scored leader at Manhattan and a three-time All-MAAC First Team selection, played an integral part in the Jaspers' offense. The graduate student led the Jaspers in goals (33) and assists (26). The Pottstown, Pa. native leads the team and is fourth in the MAAC in assists, averaging 1.86 per game. Gucwa also placed sixth in the MAAC for goals, averaging 2.36 per game.
Blando scooped up 26 ground balls and caused the second-most turnovers with 16. The Wyckoff, NJ. native started all 14 games this season, scoring one goal in the game against VMI. Blandos' best game this season was against Bryant on March 2, grabbing four ground balls and causing four turnovers.
DuPree ended the regular season second in goals (21) for the Jaspers and on a per-game basis of (1.5). The third-year Jasper secured a season-high seven points against Quinnipiac on March 27.
Lastly, short stick Scully recorded a season total of two points when he dished out back-to-back assists in the game against Marist, followed by VMI. This season, he also picked up 15 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers.
