NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened up their 2024 slate with appearances at both the Ramapo College Invitational and the NYC Gotham Cup.
"I'm really happy with the results of today," said Director of Cross Country, Track and Field Kerri Inman. "We picked up right where we left off in December with a lot of great performances and personal bests across the board."
In the Ramapo College Invitational, Alex Kristeller finished in first place in the weight throw with a personal record of 21.36 meters. Kristeller recorded his season best of 14.67 meters in the shot put to finish in fourth place. Robert Decker placed third with a mark of 17.73 meters in the weight throw. On the track, Darion Lopez won the 200m, sprinting to a time of 22.14. Noah Jefferson came in second place in the 400m, with a time of 49.99 for the men.
For the women, Kristin Stickdorn finished in second place in the weight throw with a measurement of 17.66 meters and third in the shot put at 12.55 meters. Mary Gill placed third in the weight throw, with a final throw of 17.45 meters. Bella Cannizzo placed third in the 3000m run, crossing the finish line at 10:43. For the long jump, Bella Sing recorded her season best at 5.45m for third place.
At the NYC Gotham Cup, the Jaspers excelled coming away with additional personal records. For the men, Myron Corpuz came in second place in the weight throw with a peak of 16.31m and Joseph Pelio finished in seventh place with a throw of 14.31 meters. Peter Athanailos finished in third in the shot put with a launch of 14.02 meters.
The 4x400 men's relay team of Jay Glenn, Christopher Purchia, Shane McCorry, and Travis Delaney finished in fifth place with a time of 3:27.98.
Transitioning her outstanding cross-country campaign to the track, Andria Scaglione placed first in the 5,000-meter run in 16:47.65. Alexandra Caraher made it two first-place finishes for the Jaspers, as she won the weight throw with a mark of 17.74 meters. Bekah Bouton placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.76 meters. Kylie Conroy ran the 3,000 meters and placed in fourth place with a time of 10:20.
The Jaspers will race again with a double meet at the Armory for the Dr. Sander Invite and the Bucknell on Friday, Jan. 26-27.
