WEST ORANGE, NJ - Manhattan finished the Metropolitan Intercollegiate in second place shooting a combined 600 (+40). The Jaspers shot a 304 (+24) today to pair with their 296 (+16) yesterday. It was a tight race for the title as Manhattan finished one stroke behind Saint Peter's to be tournament champions, but was also one stroke ahead of both Le Moyne, and Fairleigh Dickinson, and two strokes ahead of Wagner. Montclair Golf Club played a Par 70 with a total distance of 6528 yards.
"Our program is definitely heading in the right direction," said head coach Keith Prokop. "We saw it all semester long, it just did not show up on the scoreboard until this tournament. Obviously losing by one hurts as I'm sure we are all reflecting on the decisions we made both good and bad, but coming in second in a large field just shows our progression."
Akshay Mandadapu and Luke O'Grady-Rodgers both shot 75 (+5) for the Jaspers today while Colby Norton shot 76 (+6). For the tournament, Norton finished in 7th place, Mandadapu T10th, and O'Grady-Rodgers T12th.
Manhattan (B) placed ninth, finishing with a 625 (+65), including a 309 (+29) in round two. This unit was headlined today by Luca Del Canale, who shot a 76 (+6).
Saint Peters won the tournament shooting 599 (+39), while the individual champion was Wagner's Thomas Choi who shot a combined 142 (+2).
This tournament concludes the fall season for the Manhattan golf program. The Jaspers finish the fall with their best finish and performance of the semester. Coach Prokop is excited about the spring season and overall future of the program saying "We are excited to continue to learn and grow as a program and are hungry to be better. It's good to end on a note that shows all the work we put in, but at the same time makes you want more."
The spring schedule will be released at a later date.
