RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Head Men's Soccer Coach
Jorden Scott has announced a trio of captains for the upcoming 2022 campaign.
Fifth-year
James Cotter and seniors
Ronaldo Da Silva and
Dorian Bounab have been tabbed as the squads' captains.
"All three players have gone through a journey unlike many other generations of Jaspers," Scott said on his three captains. "They battled through the COVID pandemic, lockdown, missed a full season, suffered major injuries during their time with us, and came through the other side even better players and people. They want to lead others to success, drive the team and program forward, and create memories that will last a lifetime. I am proud to have them lead this team and trust them to rise and lead when the tough moments come in what will be an exciting season."
Cotter, a midfielder from Wigan, England, has been a four-year member of the Jaspers'. Last year, he tallied five points off of one goal and three assists. His lone goal came in the Jaspers Oct. 30, 2021 match against Quinnipiac when he found the net in the second minute.
"What I'm most looking forward to is for the whole team kicking on from our spring semester and hopefully winning a MAAC championship for the first time in the program's history," said Cotter on looking forward to the upcoming season.
Da Silva, a defender hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, has appeared in 14 matches, drawing 13 starts, since he arrived in Riverdale following a two-year stint at Monroe College. The defender scored last year against Canisius on Oct. 22.
"For my last season, I'm looking forward to making history in the Manhattan Men's Soccer Program. The goal is to win the MAAC and make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. I believe achieving that would be special and would end my college soccer career being proud of myself" Said Da Silva on the 2022 campaign.
Bounab, a midfielder from Riom, France, will join Cotter in the midfield. Last year, Bounab appeared in 15 matches, while drawing nine starts. He contributed one goal in the Jaspers' 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's on senior day.
"I really can't wait to start this season. The group is putting in the work during this offseason to compete at our highest level in a short and at the same time long championship run," said Bounab. "The team and I are ready to perform and win the MAAC in order to go to the first NCAA tournament in the history of Manhattan men's soccer. As a senior and captain, I look forward to helping the team as much as I can, and, altogether, make history"
The captains, alongside the rest of the Jaspers, begin the 2022 campaign at Gaelic Park on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. against Holy Cross.
