NEW YORK – Junior guard
Dee Dee Davis was named Met Basketball Writers Assn. Division I Player of the Week.
The guard averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals as the Jaspers went 2-0 last week, with both wins coming in MAAC play.
On Thursday against Rider, Davis had 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists to help Manhattan erase a 23-point third-quarter deficit to come back and win, 63-58. The Bronx native hit an off-balance 3-pointer to tie the game at 55 before Manhattan sealed the game at the free-throw line down the stretch.
The 23-point comeback win is the seventh-largest in women's Division I history.
Davis tallied 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Manhattan's 72-45 win over Marist. It was the fifth time this season that Davis scored at least 20 and eight rebounds in a game.
Davis and the Jaspers return to the court on Thursday night when Iona visits Draddy Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Manhattan seeks a fourth straight win and looks to remain perfect on its home floor.
