Boston, MA - Manhattan's women's track and field opened the BU Valentine Invitational Friday, February 14, competing across track and field events on day one of the two-day meet.
Highlights:
- Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) earned a PR in the women's mile, recording a time of 5:01.67 and topping her previous personal best of 5:12.66 set earlier this season at Fordham's Robert Elkin Invitational. She finished 94th overall in the event.
- Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) earned the Jaspers' highest finish of the day, placing sixth in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.63 meters. In the same event, Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) earned a 13th-place finish, hitting a distance of 12.90 meters.
- Nina Bjorkman (Widenska Idrottsgymnasium / Vasteras, Sweden) finished 15th in the women's weight throw, recording a distance of 15.70 meters in the event. She was followed by Preckajlo, who came in at 21st with a throw of 15.34 meters.
- Cassie Riley (Fair Haven, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) again hit her PR of 1.60 meters in the women's high jump after setting the standard at the 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championships. Riley earned a 16th-place finish in the event, tying with teammate Fiona Ruettimann (St. Gallen, Switzerland / Kantonsschule Heerbrugg), who also earned a height of 1.60 meters.
- Nicola Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) raced in her first collegiate 1000-meters race, earning a time of 3:00.82 and finishing 47th.
- In another first, Tiahna Mitchell (Joppa, MD / Harford Technical) competed in the women's 200-meter event for the first time in her collegiate career, recording a time of 26.37 (134th place). Teammate Amahri Boyce (Newark, NJ / North Star Academy) earned a time of 26.34 in the race, finishing in 128th place.
- Zarah Harris (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central) placed 42nd in the women's 500-meters, recording a time of 1:19.96. She improved upon her previous season-best of 1:20.08, recorded at the Met Championships.
- Mitchell finished in 48th in the women's 60 meters with a time of 8:32.
- Harris and Mitchell, along with Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury) and Bryhanna Dunbar, teamed up for the women's 4x400-meter relay, recording a squad time of 4:13.39.
