West Long Branch, NJ - Manhattan freshman outfielder
Adriana Gambino (Stamford, CT / Westhill) and senior pitcher/utility player
Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY / Tamarac) were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the 2018 MAAC Softball Championship Saturday, May 12.
Gambino went 4-14 for the tournament, earning a team-high three RBIs over four games. She helped Manhattan to a 8-7 win over #3 Siena on Thursday, going 2-4 with two RBIs in the game. Gambino also went 1-3 in the Jaspers' first win against #4 Iona on Wednesday, driving in a run in that game, as well. In the field, she earned one of the tournament's most exciting putouts on a diving grab in center field against #6 Marist.
Matazinsky led Manhattan with a .357 batting average over the team's four tournament games. She went 5-14 with two RBIs and earned a .438 on-base percentage. Matazinsky also made three pitching appearances in the MAAC Championship, going 1-1 and earning her first save of the season, holding back a seventh-inning Siena rally to beat the Saints 8-7 on Thursday. She compiled a 1.62 ERA for the tournament.
The Jaspers' season came to an end Friday afternoon when Manhattan fell to Marist 2-1. The Red Foxes were later eliminated from play by #2 Fairfield, who met #1 Monmouth in Saturday's championship game. Monmouth won the title over the Stags 5-1.
