Edison, NJ - The Manhattan Men's Soccer team has been tabbed to finish ninth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season by the league's 11 head coaches. The results of the preseason poll were announced during the annual MAAC Preseason Awards Show.
Quinnipiac is the MAAC preseason favorite, earning seven first-place votes and 113 points. Two-time defending champion Rider securing three first-place votes en route to being tabbed second with 110 points. Monmouth was third with 95 points while Siena garnered the final first place vote and finished up fourth with 88 points. Â
Fairfield (63 points) was fifth, followed by Canisius (61), Marist (60), Iona (48), Manhattan (39), Niagara (29) and Saint Peter's (20).
The 2017 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship has a new format in 2017, beginning on Sunday, November 5, with the third and fourth seeded teams hosting the fifth and sixth seeded teams. The semifinals take place on Thursday, November 9, at the site of the first and second seeded teams. The 2017 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship Game is held at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, November 12.
The 2017 Preseason All-MAAC team is led by Quinnipiac's James Doig, Jeppe Haehre, Chrysostomos Iakovidis, Conor McCoy and Eamon Whelan. Rider also has multiple players on the team with the trio of Jose Aguinaga, Clement Bourret and Elliot Otmani. Rounding out the team is Canisius' Melvin Blair, Marist's Simon Lund Jorgensen, Monmouth's Colin Stripling, Fairfield's Angus Hastings and Siena's Milorad Sobot.
Manhattan, which returns 14 letterwinners and seven starters, will open the regular season on Friday, August 25 against Navy with first kick tabbed for 7:00 pm.
