Ed Lawson '88 (Men's Basketball)
Sponsored by William McClellan '85
One of the top point guards and finest leaders in the illustrious history of Manhattan College Basketball, Lawson enters the Hall of Fame after helping set the foundation for the great Jasper teams of the 90's.
Almost 30 years since his graduation, Lawson continues to hold the school-record with 447 career assists while ranking second with 201 steals to go along with 1,049 points. Additionally, he is the only member in school history with 1,000 points, 400 assists and 200 steals.
While Lawson's statistics on the court speak for itself, the most impressive mark in his career is the fact that he is the only four-time captain in the long history of Manhattan basketball.
A three-time MAAC All-Academic selection, Lawson's success didn't stop when the ball stopped bouncing. The Garden State native was forced to redshirt a year due to an automobile accident, and graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting following his third year of eligibility. He then earned his MBA in Accounting/Finance. He then took it one step further and graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Lawson has close to 20 years of direct service, public affairs, advocacy and executive management experience in Federal government, Not-For-Profit and Education sectors.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has worked with local education agencies, institutions of higher education, community and faith based organizations to build their organizational and financial capacity. To that end, he recently established Family and Community Engagement Services, Inc. (FACES, Inc.) to provide a vehicle to equip and empower communities and agencies to grow, thrive and achieve.
Additionally, Mr. Lawson has played an active role in the promotion of President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Community Challenge. He was instrumental in establishing the Yonkers MBK Plan and coordination of their Local Action Summit. He assisted in establishing the Lower Hudson Valley MBK Alliance, which promotes promising practices and programs that demonstrate effectiveness and offer males of color, regardless of their income, geography, or family circumstances, the greatest opportunities to succeed in school and beyond.
Increasingly utilizing his vast and varied skills, Lawson is a founding board member of Fathers Incorporated (FI), a Certified Family Mediator and currently serves on the faculty at the State University of New York (New Paltz) as an Adjunct Professor in the Black Studies Department.
One of the top all-around players in school history, he is proudly welcomed into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame.
