Bob Schimpf '72 (Men's Soccer)

Perhaps the most electrifying goal scorer in the 50-year history of Manhattan College men's soccer, Bob Schimpf, Class of 1972, is responsible for multiple program records today. He is the all-time program leader with 41 career goals. He could've tallied more, but freshmen were not allowed to play at the varsity level in that era.

In his sophomore year in 1969, Schimpf set a program-record with 13 goals. He followed that up with one of the most decorated years for a Jasper soccer player. On October 26, 1970, Schimpf tallied four goals against Marist, which was a single-game record at the time. He went on to finish the season with 16 goals, which is tied with Manhattan College Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2016 member Luis Custodio '82 for the most in a single-season.

Following the end of his college career, Schimpf began coaching at the club, collegiate and high school levels. When he was the coach at Suffolk County Community College, he led the Sharks to the Region XV Championships and the NJCAA National Championships in 1979 and 1980.

Schimpf began coaching club ball in 1971. He has won over 500 games and garnered eight sportsmanship awards at this level. He served as the Men's Open Coach and Chairperson for the Empire State Team Long Island Region, a position he held from 1977 to 1992.

In high school, Schimpf has served as the Boys Assistant Varsity Soccer Coach at Sayville High School on Long Island, recording over 300 wins on his resumé.

Schimpf has always wished to spread the joys of soccer around his and others' communities. During the Iraq War, Schimpf raised over $100,000 worth of soccer equipment to send to children whose towns were destroyed in the fighting.

Bob Schimpf eats, sleeps and breathes soccer, and it is only fitting that he enters the Hall of Fame during the 50th anniversary of his program. He is proudly welcomed into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame.
